How often exiles romanticize the landscape of the homeland. I have cautioned myself against that. Nothing irritates me more than a Carioca waxing lyrical about Rio as “the most beautiful city in the world”. Privately, though, I have always believed that the light back home is unmatched. The mountains rising improbably across the city, the beaches, the music, the sweaty parties. I’ve continued thinking of every sea, no matter how beautiful, as an impostor #rio #weloveitwild

When I put my eyes on the Ali Ibn Hamza Shrine, in Shiraz, I knew something was off. It looks bizarre, with an unreal mosaic of mirrors and glass surrounding the whole structure inside. It's fascinating. The most intriguing, however, is the history.
